Precision Prayer
Day 2 | Grounded
A Scripture-centered reading from the Precision Prayer devotional collection.
One of my favorite treats has always been strawberries and pineapple. When we visited Hawaii and Costa Rica, I feasted on both. They tasted so much better than back home.
Then one day, something wonderful happened. I was introduced to Tajin. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a Mexican seasoning made from mild chili peppers, lime, and sea salt. Put that on pineapple and have mercy.
I still love fruit, but once you’ve had a taste of that spice, plain fruit just doesn’t satisfy the same way.
Once you’ve tasted more of God, ordinary things don’t satisfy the same way.
The Bible says to taste and see that the Lord is good.
That is how pursuing God began to feel for me. The more I wanted, the more I realized He was there. I’ll admit there were dry seasons, but even those seasons made me want more.
Professionally, much of my life was spent pursuing titles, raises, and success. I learned that doing everything as unto the Lord produces lasting reward. Hard work matters.
But I also noticed something else. A lot of people spend their lives job hopping, constantly chasing the next raise, title, or opportunity. Some of those moves may make sense, but every jump means starting over again.
I see this in churches as well. People leave for a variety of reasons. “I’m not being fed” is something I’ve heard a lot over the years.
Oddly as an adult, I don’t need anyone to feed me.
Even toddlers want to feed themselves as soon as they can.
The danger is you never stay planted long enough to grow roots.
Think about bamboo for a moment.
Before bamboo ever breaks through the surface, it spends years developing a deep root system underground. What looks like nothing is actually preparation.
Whether in life or in our pursuit of God, we need to be grounded.
Our walk with God works the same way. Deep roots are developed in prayer, faith, consistency, and quiet pursuit long before visible growth ever appears.
We often want the next shiny thing, but God is far more interested in roots than appearances.
Precision Practice
Have you allowed your roots to dig in?
I heard this once and believe this is great advice.
Plow the field before you.
Dig deep.
Become rooted …
- in your walk with the Lord.
- In your family.
- In your church.
